Woven wire fences consist of a number of horizontal lines of smooth wire held apart by vertical wires called stays. Spacing between horizontal line wires may vary from as close as 1 1/2 inches at the bottom for small animals to 9 inches at the top for large animals. Spacing of the wires generally gets wider as the fence gets higher. Stay wires are spaced 6 inches apart for small animals and 12 inches for large animals. The height of most woven wire fencing materials ranges from 26 to 48 inches. The height needed will depend on the size and jumping ability of the animals.
